Messaging program
SMS Terms
Last updated: May 12, 2026
Layoff HQ SMS is an opt-in text messaging program for paying Layoff HQ customers in the United States. Opted-in customers receive 1 to 4 messages per month covering deadline reminders, rule changes that affect their active deadlines, service-ready notifications, plan-status alerts, and other time-sensitive information about their post-layoff transition. Opting in is voluntary and unchecked by default. Customers can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. Message and data rates may apply per the customer's wireless carrier; Layoff HQ does not charge a separate fee.
This page documents the full program. It is the proof-of-consent reference that our SMS delivery vendor uses to verify Layoff HQ complies with United States consumer protection rules.
Who can sign up
Layoff HQ SMS is available only to paying Layoff HQ customers with a U.S. mobile phone number. We do not currently support international numbers. The SMS program is included with both the 6-month and 12-month plans at no extra charge from us, but standard message and data rates from your wireless carrier may apply.
When you opt in
After you complete checkout, you are directed to a welcome page where we ask for your name and, optionally, your mobile phone number along with an unchecked SMS opt-in checkbox. Opting in is entirely voluntary. You can complete checkout and use Layoff HQ without ever providing a phone number. Here is what the opt-in box looks like during account setup:
By checking this box and providing your number, you agree to receive recurring text messages from Layoff HQ about your Decision Calendar deadlines, rule changes, service-ready notifications, and other time-sensitive information that may affect your transition. Frequency varies based on your active deadlines. Reply STOP to unsubscribe any time. Reply HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply.
What we send
Layoff HQ SMS messages fall into the following categories:
- Deadline reminders. A text message 7 days before each deadline on your Decision Calendar, and another the morning of the deadline. The day-of reminder is scheduled for around 7:30 AM in the time zone of the state you entered during account setup.
- Rule changes. When a federal or state rule we cover (severance review windows, unemployment certification requirements, COBRA election deadlines, ISO exercise rules, estimated tax safe harbor thresholds, and similar) changes in a way that affects an active deadline on your calendar, we text you so you can act on it.
- Service-ready notifications. When a service you requested is ready (for example, your severance agreement review is complete, your equity vesting calendar has been generated, your next two-pager is available), we text you so you do not need to check email.
- Plan-status alerts. When your plan reaches important milestones (day 90 check-in, plan expiration approaching, refund processed), we may text you.
- Other time-sensitive information. If we learn something new that may materially affect your transition (a state-level program launch, a court ruling on a benefit, a previously-undisclosed deadline), we may text you so you can act before it is too late.
How often
Frequency varies based on which deadlines apply to your situation and what category of plan you have. A typical Layoff HQ customer receives between 1 and 4 messages per month during the first six months after their last day, with a higher concentration in the first 30 days when most deadlines fall. We do not send promotional or marketing texts.
Keywords
You can control your SMS subscription at any time using these keywords. Reply with the keyword to any Layoff HQ text and our system will respond automatically.
- STOP — Unsubscribe immediately. You will not receive further Layoff HQ texts. We will reply once to confirm. Your account remains active and you will continue to receive email reminders.
- HELP — We reply with a short message including how to reach us by email (support@layoffhq.com) and a link back to this page.
- START — If you previously sent STOP and wish to resume, reply START to re-subscribe. You can also re-enable SMS by emailing support.

Carrier disclaimer
Message and data rates may apply per your wireless carrier's plan. Layoff HQ does not charge a separate fee for the SMS service. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Mobile carriers supported include all major U.S. carriers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and their MVNOs).
Privacy
Your mobile phone number is used only to send the messages described above. We do not sell, rent, or share your phone number with third parties for their marketing purposes. The phone number is stored in our customer database, transmitted to our SMS delivery vendor (Twilio) for the sole purpose of sending texts to you, and may be shared with our hosting and payment partners as necessary to operate the service. Full details are in our Privacy Policy and Subprocessors list.
Opting out by other means
In addition to replying STOP, you can opt out at any time by:
- Emailing support@layoffhq.com with the subject line "Stop SMS".
- Replying to any email you have received from Layoff HQ with the same request.
- Once your portal is live (post-launch), toggling SMS off from your account settings.
Changes to this page
We may update this page from time to time. Material changes (a new category of message, a change to frequency expectations, a change to how you opt out) will be announced by email at least 14 days before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change.
